Editor, The Gum Branch Volunteer Fire Department works hard to keep up on training.
We would like to have a new or newer truck but that takes time with the county.
We are looking for grants, but those sometimes have high priced matching funds, which we don’t have. We have a small budget that is supplemented by the donations of great people who donate because they like what we do.
We have put in for grants in the past and have some applications in now, but it takes time for those because they come from federal money and we are competing against other fire departments across the nation.
Most rural fire department personnel work hard at making a go of the departments and if it weren’t for volunteers most of them wouldn’t exist in our communities.  
All I ask is for our residents to be patient and hope for us to have good things to happen in our department and area. Support our fire department in all the ways you can.
