Bradwell softball tryouts Aug. 3

Inspirational Cheerleading Academy to host classes, tryouts

Classes for children ages 6-18 begin Saturday, Aug.15, from 9-11 a.m. on the field behind the VFW on Highway 196. Classes are limited. The beginners class can accommodate 15 students, Intermediate can accommodate 15 students and the advanced class can accommodate 20 students.

ICA All-Star Competitive Cheerleading Squad try-outs for children ages 8-18 are at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. The location has not yet been determined.

Lady Panther tryouts

The Liberty County Lady Panthers softball team will have tryouts at 6 p.m. Aug. 3, at the school’s softball field. School physical forms must be completed to be eligible. For more information, call coach Jerome Standard at 312-0331.

LCRD football, cheerleading

Registration for youth football and cheerleading at the Liberty County Recreation Department is Aug. 1-21. Football is for ages 7-14 and cheerleading is for ages 7-12. Football age divisions are: flag football for 7-8-year-olds and tackle football for 9-10-, 11-12- and 13-14-year-olds. Weight restrictions apply to the 9-10- and 11-12-year-old divisions. Cost is $15 per child for flag football and $10 per child for all other divisions. All equipment is provided except pants for tackle football players. Teams will be formed in Midway, Walthourville, Riceboro and Gum Branch, if there are enough participants. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams. The deadline to register is Aug. 21. Homefront assistance

Operation Homefront is helping financially strapped, military families afford sports team registrations, cultural and art classes, etc., for children of Georgia service members. For more information, call Christina Anthony or Ashley Carpenter at 368-9622.

Team Hinesville sponsors

Team Hinesville’s weightlifting team is seeking donations for upcoming trips to the AAU Junior Olympics and world and national qualifiers.

World-ranked Olympic weightlifter Jenna Bussard, coach of Team Hinesville, said participants pay their own expenses so she is always eager to accept donations to help Team Hinesville. If you would like to make a donation, call her at 429-0931.

Soccer registration

The YMCA is registering for its fall soccer program. Children ages 3-15 are eligible. Practice begins Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration ends when the teams are full. Volunteer coaches are needed. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-9622.

The Bradwell Tigers football squad has the 2009-10 discount cards available for sale for $10. The cards are for local restaurants and Pro Feet shoe store. For more information, call the BI athletic office at 368-6123.

Madden NFL 2009 Challenge

The Liberty County YMCA is hosting Madden NFL 2009-10 Xbox 360 online tournaments. The first tournament is scheduled for Aug. 1. Registration is $15 and you can register at the YMCA.

Shrine Club tournament

It’s time for the 24th annual Hinesville/ Fort Stewart Shrine Club Golf Tournament. Registrations are being accepted for the 18-hole, four-person scramble at 8 a.m., Sept. 12, at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. The fee is $50 per person and includes cart, green fees and food. Open to men and women with prizes awarded on every hole, closest to the pin, longest putt, longest drive and the bullseye shot. Registration closes Sept. 9. Send players’ names and handicaps to:

Baseball fall league

The Chain Baseball Academy is accepting registrations for a fall baseball program. The fall league will consist
of 18U (grades 9-12) teams that will play double headers
on Saturdays. Chain will also have a fall showcase team that will play at different colleges. Deadline for registration is Aug. 28. An instructional league will be also offered for players ages 9-14. Chain baseball

The Savannah Chain Baseball Academy is hosting three Velocity Arm Care Program sessions in the fall. The program's goal is to develop arm strength, while teaching the fundamentals of pitching and throwing mechanics as well as proper arm care to insure the health and safety of participants. Participants will be supervised and an average of 3 to 5 mph increase has been documented throughout the six week program. All positions players can benefit from the program. Doug Wollenburg, head baseball coach at SCAD is the instructor. The first session begins the week of Aug. 16, sign up now. Open to ages 10 and up. Registration for youth soccer at the Liberty County Recreation Department is Aug. 1-21. This program is

LCRD fall baseball

Registration for fall baseball and softball at the Liberty County Recreation Department is Aug. 1-28. Age divisions are 7-9 machine pitch and 10-12 live pitch leagues. The age cut-off date was May 1. Games are in September and October. The fee is $45 per child. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams.
