LCRD football, cheerleading

Registration for youth football and cheerleading at the Liberty County Recreation Department is Aug. 1-21. Football is for ages 7-14 and cheerleading is for ages 7-12. Football age divisions are: flag football for 7-8-year-olds and tackle football for 9-10-, 11-12- and 13-14-year-olds. Weight restrictions apply to the 9-10- and 11-12-year-old divisions. Cost is $15 per child for flag football and $10 per child for all other divisions. All equipment is provided except pants for tackle football players. Teams will be formed in Midway, Walthourville, Riceboro and Gum Branch, if there are enough participants. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams. The deadline to register is Aug. 21. Madden NFL 2009 Challenge

The Liberty County YMCA is hosting Madden NFL 2009-10 Xbox 360 online tournaments. The first tournament is scheduled for Aug. 1. Registration is $15 and you can register at the YMCA.

Shrine Club tournament

It’s time for the 24th annual Hinesville/ Fort Stewart Shrine Club Golf Tournament. Registrations are being accepted for the 18-hole, four-person scramble at 8 a.m., Sept. 12, at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. The fee is $50 per person and includes cart, green fees and food. Baseball fall league

The Chain Baseball Academy is accepting registrations for a fall baseball program. The fall league will consist
of 18U (grades 9-12) teams that will play double headers
on Saturdays. Chain will also have a fall showcase team that will play at different colleges. Deadline for registration is Aug. 28. An instructional league will be also offered for players ages 9-14. The Savannah Chain Baseball Academy is hosting three Velocity Arm Care Program sessions in the fall. The program's goal is to develop arm strength, while teaching the fundamentals of pitching and throwing mechanics as well as proper arm care to insure the health and safety of participants. Participants will be supervised and an average of 3 to 5 mph increase has been documented throughout the six week program. All positions players can benefit from the program.
