CYS registration now open

 

Registration for CYS spring soccer will continue until March 13, or when all slots are filled. Registration is open to all CYSS members, ages 4-13, living on or off post. Register at Fort Stewart CYSS, building 443, on Gulick Avenue adjacent to Corkan Pool. Hours of operation are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

For more information, call 767-2312or 767-4371. Volunteers are also needed to coach track and field and soccer teams. If you are interested, please visit CYSS or Jordan Youth Gym (building 608 on West 6th Street) to fill out an application. All applications will be screened and submitted for background checks.

Registration for Fort Stewart youth track is open to all CYS members who will be between the ages of 7-14 by Dec. 31.

Six-year-olds may participate provided they turn 7 before next Jan 1. Age groups are 7-8, 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under for both boys and girls.

Register between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at CYS, building 443 on Gulick Avenue. CYS is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays. For more registration information, call 767-2312. For more information on track and field, call 767-4371 or 767-9270.

Great Backyard Bird Count

 

The 12th annual Great Backyard Bird Count is this weekend.

Bird watchers across North America plan to tally the birds they see in backyards, parks, nature centers and on public lands. They will file their reports online at www.birdcount.org where you can see results on maps in real time.

The count is a citizen-science project hosted by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It includes a photo contest and drawings for prizes.

South Georgia Kings
hold Boston butt sale

 

The South Georgia Kings are raising funds for their upcoming YBOA and AAU season. During February, they will be selling tickets for Boston butts for $20 each. Tickets are available at the Coaches Corner Barber Shop and Beauty Salon at 946 E.G. Miles Parkway, suite 105 and Jazzy’s Barber Shop and Beauty Salon at 230 W. Gen. Screven Way. YMCA sports for children

 

Liberty County/Armed services Family YMCA has sports and activities for differently-abled kids (Kindergarten through 12th grade).

The program runs most Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. and costs $10 for members and $20 others. The fee includes T-shirts for parent and child.

The focus is:

• March, baseball. Registration runs Feb. 15-March 12.

• April, swimming. Registration is March 8-April 9.

• May, art. Registration is April 8-May 7.

• June, gymnastic movement. Registration is May 15-June 4.

LCRD Spring Programs

 

 

The Liberty County Recreation Department is registering players for spring programs through Feb. 20. All programs begin in March.

Volunteer coaches are needed for all youth programs. Adult programs are for team entries.

On-line registration and information is available at www.lcrd.net. Age verification must be on file for all participants. For more information, call 448-LCRD.

Youth track and field is for Liberty County residents who turn 7 and do not turn 15 prior to Jan. 1. Age divisions are 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14 for both boys and girls. The fee is $15 per participant.

Youth and adult volleyball is for ages 10-15 as of March 1 costs $15 per child. Ages 16 and older may participate in the adult program. The fee for adult teams is $150.

Youth and adult soccer is for ages 4-17 as of Aug. 1 and costs $30 for ages 4-7 and $45 for ages 8-17. Ages 16 and up may participate in the adult program. Adults teams cost $150.

Wrestling is for ages 7-17. The fee is $25. The program is conducted each Tuesday and Thursday evening and on Saturday mornings through May.

Adult fitness program is a walking based, low impact, fitness program for ages 16 and up, conducted on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings at James Brown Park. Call LCRD for details.

 

Semi-pro football preparing

 

The Hinesville Hurricanes are getting ready to gear up for the 2009 season and they are looking for former and new players to hit the grid iron. Hurricanes coach James Sharp will hold a team meeting and orientation at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Live Oak Church. For more information, call (912) 269-0830.
