Former NFL player to speak at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church

YMCA Aerobic-Thon

The Liberty County YMCA will host an aerobic-thon from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Free and open to the public, donations will be solicited for the Y's Priceless Gifts campaign. Junior Future 150 basketball camp

The Junior Future 150 basketball camp will be held March 5-6 at the Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex. Camp fee is $105 online at $125 at the door. Kings of the South Tournament

The Kings of the South AAU Invitational Tournament is scheduled for April 8-10 in Hinesville. Registrations are being accepted until April 1. There will be a boy’s division open to third through 12th grade and a girls’ division open from sixth to 12th grade. Entry fee is $250 and trophies will be awarded to first and second place teams. Fundraiser in Ludowici

The 2nd Annual Taylor McCartney Dice Run will be held Feb. 19 in Ludowici to help Josh Berry, a Long County High School student who has been diagnosed with acute leukemia. The run costs $20 for the first roll and $5 for each additional roll. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the high school parking lot, with the first bikes pulling out at 11 a.m. There will be door prizes, a 50-50 drawing and prizes for the best and worst roll. Long County Recreation Department update

The Long County Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for baseball, softball and T-ball. Age groups range from 4 to 14. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the recreation department’s office Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. or at the drop box after work hours. The application deadline for signing up is Feb. 28. The recreation department is in need of coaches and there will be mandatory coach’s clinic on Feb. 19 at the Long County High School complex. All coaches must attend this training. On March 4-5 there will be evaluations for baseball and softball. For times call the recreation department or come by the office. There is no evaluation for T-Ball. The entry fee for children to participate is $25 or $35 if the payment is late. For more information call (912) 545-9112.

Fort Stewart’s annual Women's Bowling Championship Handicap Tournament.

Fort Stewart will be hosting the 30th annual Women's Bowling Championship Handicap Tournament from Feb. 19-20 and Feb 26-27 at MARNES Lanes. Entries must be postmarked by Feb. 9 or hand delivered no later than Feb. 11. For more information, call Les Culver at 767-4866.

The South Georgia Kings will have tryouts for their upcoming AAU basketball season. Seventh and eighth grade tryouts will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Feb. 5, at Faith Baptist Christian Academy. Fifth and sixth grade tryouts will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Feb. 12, at Faith Baptist Christian Academy. There is a $25 application fee. The Rebels Clash of Champions

 

The Rebels Clash of Champions tournament is scheduled for March 19-20 at the St. James Sports Center in Holmestown. The tournament is for 15U boys, ninth graders only, teams only and players must be 15 to participate. All teams must have a dark and a light uniform. Registration is $150 per team and registration closes March 11. First- and second-place medals will be awarded and each team is guaranteed two games in the double-elimination tournament.

Tip-off is at 9 a.m. March 19. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students. For more information, call 980-4559. The tournament is directed by Ernie Walthour and David Linderman.

All-Stars tryouts

Scott's All-Stars, an academic/AAU basketball program, will have try-outs Feb. 12-13 at the YMCA in Hinesville. On Feb. 19-20 tryouts also will be held at Jenkins High School at 3 p.m. The program will field two elementary teams, one middle school team and one high school team for a maximum of 48 kids. Coastal Ga. Soccer Association registration

The Coastal Georgia Soccer Association is accepting team registrations. The fee for 4U-8U players is $70 to register plus a $36.50 uniform fee, which applies to new 6U and 8U players only. The registration fee for 10U and 14U players is $85, plus $36.50 for a youth uniform or $38.50 for adult sizes.

Association officials plan to start a 14U team in Midway for Fort Stewart and Midway area players. Practices will be in Midway and games will be on weekends in Savannah.

Cat Walk submissions due

Bradwell Institute is building a “Cat Walk of Fame” featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tiger Coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.

To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, the former athlete must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college.
