Fundraiser set
for Saturday

The second annual Taylor McCartney Dice Run is Saturday in Ludowici. It will benefit Josh Berry, a Long County High School student who has acute leukemia.

The run costs $20 for the first roll and $5 for each additional roll. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the high school parking lot, with the first bikes pulling out at 11 a.m. There will be door prizes, a 50-50 drawing and prizes for the best and worst rolls.

Sign up for soccer

 

The Liberty County YMCA spring soccer program registration runs through March 14. The season kicks off March 19. For more information call Richard Sommerville at 368-9622.

Track and field

Registration runs through today at the Liberty County Recreation Department for the track and field. This program is for Liberty County residents who turn 7 and do not turn 15 prior to next Jan. 1. Age divisions are 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14 for boys and girls. Practices start in early March with meets beginning in March. Cost is $20 per participant. A birth certificate or other age verification must be on file at LCRD for all participants.

 

Volleyball

Registration will be accepted through today at the LCRD for youth and adult volleyball. The youth program is for ages 10-15 and the fee is $20 per child. Ages 16 and up may participate in the adult program. The cost for adult teams is $150 per team. Practices will start in early March.

 

Fundraiser

Registration will be accepted through Friday at the LCRD for youth soccer. Play is for Liberty County residents who are between the ages of 4 and 14 as of Aug. 1. The fee is $30 per child for ages 4-7 and $45 per child 8-14. Play starts in early March. Online registration for all the programs is available at www.lcrd.net. Or call 448-5273 for information.

Volunteer coaches are needed and other support personnel are needed for all youth teams.

 

Rebels

The Rebels Clash of Champions tournament is scheduled for March 19-20 at the St. James Sports Center in Holmestown. The tournament is for 15U boys, ninth graders only, teams only and players must be 15 to participate. All teams must have a dark and a light uniform. Registration is $150 per team and registration closes March 11. First- and second-place medals will be awarded, and each team is guaranteed two games in the double-elimination tournament.

Tip-off is at 9 a.m. March 19. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students. For more information, call 980-4559. The tournament is directed by Ernie Walthour and David Linderman.

All-Stars tryouts

Scott’s All-Stars, an academic/AAU basketball program, will have try-outs Feb. 12-13 at the YMCA in Hinesville. On Feb. 19-20 tryouts also will be held at Jenkins High School at 3 p.m. The program will field two elementary teams, one middle school team and one high school team for a maximum of 48 kids. There will be a 9 Pin No-Tap Sweetheart Scotch Doubles Tournament from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 12 at Marne Lanes. Entry Fee $20.00 per (2) person team of male/female. Sign-up begins 1 hour before each shift. For more information call 767-4866.

Basketball Fundamentals’ Camp

Community church bowling league

Coastal Ga. Soccer Association registration

The Coastal Georgia Soccer Association is accepting team registrations. The fee for 4U-8U players is $70 to register plus a $36.50 uniform fee, which applies to new 6U and 8U players only. The registration fee for 10U and 14U players is $85, plus $36.50 for a youth uniform or $38.50 for adult sizes.

Association officials plan to start a 14U team in Midway for Fort Stewart and Midway area players. Practices will be in Midway and games will be on weekends in Savannah.

Bradwell Institute is building a "Cat Walk of Fame" featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tiger Coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.

To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, the former athlete must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. Turkey Federation Banquet

The National Wild Turkey Federation is hosting its 26th annual Heritage Banquet at 6 p.m. March 10 at the Dorchester Civic Center located at 1804 Islands Highway in Midway. Alumni Football game looking for players

Grid Iron Alumni is looking to host an alumni football game in our area. They are currently forming teams of past high school players ages 18 and up to play in a full contact football game representing their old high schools. Former Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School players are encouraged to apply. Grid Iron Alumni supplies all the equipment. Funds raised will go back to the local high school football programs.
