Bowling for Relay

 

The SNF (Chemtall) team will host a bowling tournament to benefit Relay for Life on Saturday at Marne Lanes on Fort Stewart. Sign-up starts at noon, and the tournament begins at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $20 per person. E-mail wandaj@snfhc.com for information.

 

Hoops tourney

 

The Rebels Clash of Champions tournament is scheduled for March 19-20 at the St. James Sports Center in Holmestown. The tournament is for 15U boys, ninth-grade teams only and players must be 15 to participate.

All teams must have a dark and a light uniform. Registration is $150 per team, and registration closes March 11. First- and second-place medals will be awarded, and each team is guaranteed two games in the double-elimination tournament.

Tip-off is at 9 a.m. March 19. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students. For more information, call 980-4559.

Midway hosts all-star hoops

 

The first annual middle school all-star basketball tournament will be at 2 p.m. March 12, at Midway Middle School and will feature players from all around southeast Georgia. Admission is $5.

Play co-ed softball for charity

 

The Citizen’s of Georgia Power team will host its first co-ed softball tournament, "Pitch A Cure," on Saturday, March 19, at the Liberty County ball fields, 800 Tupelo Trail in Hinesville. The entry fee is $150 per team and proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Hurricanes players’ meeting soon

 

The Hinesville Hurricanes will host their yearly players’ meeting at 6 p.m. March 14 at the Live Oak Church in Hinesville. The registration fee is $125. The meeting is open to players and anyone interested in trying out for the team.

Guyton coming home for camp

 

Former Bradwell Institute standout and current New England Patriots football player Gary Guyton will host a two-day sports camp in Hinesville on Friday and Saturday.

The event kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday with a Pros vs. Teachers celebrity basketball game at Bradwell Institute. Admission is $5 in advance or $8 at the door. Children ages 5 and younger are free. Autographed T-shirts will be sold for $10 in advance or $15 at the event.

At 9 p.m., there will be a celebrity sports night at Doodle’s, 105 West General Screven Way. Admission is $30 in advance or $40 at the door. Military admission is $20 in advance or $30 at the door. Adults and kids are welcome, and the price of admission includes food and drinks. This is an opportunity to bring a camera and take pictures, get autographs from and mingle with Guyton and NFL players Michael Jones of the Bengals and Darryl Richards of the Patriots.

Saturday gets under way at 9 a.m. with free youth football and cheer camps at Bradwell Institute for students in first through sixth grades. Admission is limited to the first 150 kids for football and first 25 for cheerleading and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The football clinic includes football instruction with NFL players and an autograph session. The cheer clinic concentrates on basic cheer skills, including jumps, motions and moves. No previous cheer experience is necessary.

At noon, there will be a free varsity skills football camp at Bradwell Institute for kids in seventh through 12th grades, limited to the first 150 to sign up.

At 2 and 2:30 p.m., there will be half-hour seminars for parents on NCAA eligibility. Register in advance online at http://flyingcolorssports2.info.

 

SNF hosts golf tournament

 

The SNF (Chemtall) team will host a golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Crosswinds Golf Club. The entry fee is $50, which includes 18 holes of golf and range balls. E-mail shondiB@snfhc.com for information.

 

Register for Kings invitational

 

The Kings of the South AAU Invitational Tournament is scheduled for April 8-10 in Hinesville. Registrations will be accepted until April 1. There will be a boys’ division open to third- through 12th-graders and a girls’ division open to sixth- through 12th-graders. Basketball sessions on Sundays

Bradwell Institute is building a "Cat Walk of Fame" featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tigers coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.

To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, the former athlete must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. Derby Devils gear up for season

 

The Savannah Derby Devils women’s flat-track roller derby league returns to SuperGoose Sports for the first of two intra-league scrimmages this year.

The March 12 event will include an hour of full-contact skating between the local rollergirls as well as raffles, games, prizes, refreshments, merchandise and a free moonbounce for kids.

Doors open at 6 p.m.; the scrimmage starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. There is a $2 discount off the door price for senior citizens (65 and older) and people with a military or student ID. Kids ages 8 and younger get in free. Some bleacher seating is available. SuperGoose Sports is located at 3700 Wallin St. in Savannah.
