Tiger Tee-Off on the way

The annual Tiger Tee-Off Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Harvey Overton Bradwell Boosters Club, is at 1:30 p.m. June 11 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. The fee is $50 per person, $200 per team in a four-person scramble format. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place teams. Rodeo, bull riding in Claxton

The Sebra Championship Bull Riding Michael Riggs Invitational is at 8 p.m. May 13 and 14 at Richey Arena in Claxton. Sponsored by Nesmith Chevrolet Buick GMC, the event will feature professional bull riding, cowgirl barrel racing, western wear vendor booths, food and children’s activity. It will also include rodeo clowns, a kids calf scramble and bucking bulls.
Admission is free for children under 6. Tickets for kids age 6-12 are $5 and adult tickets are $10 and can be bought at the gate each night. Concession proceeds benefit the Claxton Shrine Club. For more information call Payton Caudill at 912-663-1722.

Touchdown Club tourney

The East Liberty County American Legion Post 321 will host a special Mothers Day Turkey Shoot event at 2 p.m. today at the Dorchester Civic Center.
The event is open to everyone. Moms and those 16-and-under will be able to shoot for prizes for $3 per shot. Shooters over 16 will pay $5 per shot. Burgers, hot dogs and water are available and cash donations are encouraged. For more information, call 980-5204 or 332-2422.

Touchdown Club tourney

The Long County Touchdown Club’s annual golf tournament is May 14 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. The event is a non-profit activity with proceeds going to help the Blue Tide football program. Tee-off time for the four-person scramble will be at 1:30 p.m. A meal will be included along with prizes for the top three teams, closest-to-the-pin and longest drive. Summer Slam in July

The annual Summer Slam event is scheduled for July 3 at Salter’s Field, and event director Ernie Walthour is accepting applications for food vendors and musicians/bands. The gates will open at 1 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. The daylong event will feature a music contest at 3 p.m., car and motorcycle show at 4 p.m. and live music at 5 p.m. Evening headliners include Dirty Dollars, Milkk Mann and Fame Entertainment’s Lil Bun. Walking for scholarships

Georgia Coastal Youth Inc. and Seven Ministries will sponsor a walk-a-thon to raise funds for The Jackie Gilliard-Henderson Memorial Scholarship. The funds will benefit deserving seniors from Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High who want to further their education. The event is slated to start at 6:30 a.m. May 21. The seven-mile trek will start and end in the parking lot of the Bradwell baseball field. For more information, call Gary Gilliard at 977-3527.

Sign up for summer camp

Registration is under way for the St. James summer day camp, which starts June 1 and will be open from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. The camp is closed on all holidays. The fee is $50 per week. The camp is open to children ages 5-14. Activities will include swimming, bowling, basketball, soccer, kickball and weekly field trips. For more information, call 980-4559 or 884-3016.

YMCA offers programs

The Liberty County YMCA is currently registering for the following programs:
Soccer league ages 11-14, registration ends May 22.
T-Ball league ages 3-7 registration ends May 16.
Soccer camp ages 5-14, camp will be held June 13 - 17th
Football camp ages 5-14, camp will be held June 20 - 24th

New girls’ AAU team in town

The Hinesville Lady Hawks girls’ AAU basketball team is seeking players ages 9-14. The organization is geared to players of all levels, and no child will be turned away.
The team also is seeking volunteer coaches and sponsors for its upcoming season.
The initial cost to join the team is $105, which covers the cost of the uniform and registration into the AAU basketball league. For more information, call coach Harvey Harris at 321-9150 or 570-1176. You also can visit the girls at the Fort Stewart MWR yard sale April 16.

Cat Walk of Fame at BI
Bradwell Institute is building a “Cat Walk of Fame” featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tigers coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.
