Legendary coach Erk Russell now stands watch forever outside Paulson Stadium in Statesboro after officials unveiled his statue on Saturday before Georgia Southern’s first-round playoff game.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Russell’s sons, Jay and Rusty, school president Dr. Brooks Keel, John Mulherin of Southern Boosters and alumnus Derek Sills of Midway.
Sills spearheaded fundraising efforts to make the statue a reality. It currently sits in front of Bishop Field House, but will be moved to the other end of the stadium once the new Football Operations Center is built.
