The commanded blessing

The 133rd division of Psalm says, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”
When the spirit of unity is operating among the brethren, it attracts the manifold presence of God. The commanded blessing of God descends upon His people and flows into their communities. And nothing that they plan to do is impossible for them.
A command is an order, a directive or a specific instruction that keeps everyone on the same page. Today’s scripture encourages Christian fellowship in the spirit of unity. Obtaining true unity in our community is more than being in the same place at the same time, it requires the same mindset.
The Greek word in scripture for Christian fellowship is “koinonia.”
It means partnership and participation, as well as contribution and distribution. Biblical fellowship denotes a “giving and receiving” relationship between Christians.
I have found that it doesn’t usually happen without common purpose or desire to accomplish a specific goal. It has been said that fellowship can be described as “two fellows in the same ship.” But my experience has proven it to be more like “two fellows in the same ship in the middle of a raging storm.”
This kind of circumstance creates an urgent need for agreement and both of them will do whatever it takes to arrive to shore safely. The current financial downturn has given America something in common: an urgent need for a commanded blessing in our lives. God has a formula for Christians to live in. His blessing, forever more, is first to please Him, and then to dwell together in unity.
Perhaps this is the reason Christ Jesus avoided being pulled into the political parties of His time. The Sadducees and the Pharisees made every attempt to get Him to agree with their dogmatic views of scripture and their ideology of society. Jesus always chose to remain in agreement with His Father. He walked in complete authority and commanded the blessing of the Lord wherever He went.
When the churches get in total agreement with God and embrace true fellowship with each other, we also release a commanded blessing into the lives of those around us.
