Grow A Girl Network had its third annual “Diamonds and Pearls” Scholarship Pageant on June 22 at the Shuman Recreation Center.
More than 200 people cheered on the participants of the local nonprofit organization, which was established in 2009 to assist in the physical, spiritual, social and psychological nurturing of Liberty County’s young women, ranging in ages from 10 to 19.
Contestants Mia Ochoa, Tyanna Kelly, Polet Vila, Chrishaunda Paige and Anyah Brooks competed in contests such as business attire, swim wear, creative design and evening wear.
“The girls’ hard work and dedication really paid off as they displayed grace, elegance, sportsmanship and excellence,” said Shawntell Greene, 2013 GAGN president, Hinesville Chapter.
Ochoa was crowned Ms. Grow A Girl Network 2013 and shared the title of Ms. Congeniality with Vila. Ochoa won a monetary prize for her winnings. All contestants received prizes donated by local businesses.
Several community leaders attended, including Liberty County Commissioner Donald Lovette and the Eleven Black Men of Liberty County, which also participated as evening-wear escorts.
