VIDEO: 17th Blues and BBQ
After having to miss out last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Samone Norsworthy, Co-Chairman of the Hinesville Area Arts Council, said she was thrilled this year’s event went off without a hitch.
She said it was a difficult decision to cancel the event last year, but as the community grows and more people get their COVID vaccine shots, they felt it was safe to host the event this year offering plenty of space for social distancing.
“It was time for us to host a very safe outdoor event this year,” she said. “We are excited about our turnout. We had way more than we anticipated.”
She said the annual event provides an opportunity to showcase talented musicians each year as well as allow local food vendors to compete on who has the best BBQ in our area. The community got to enjoy some of the BBQ throughout the day and into the early evening.
This year the entertainers included The Boondockers, Jon Lee & the Apparitions, the Kyle Yardley Band & the Chuck Courtenay Band.
The Hinesville Area Arts Council provided a few tents for the folks to enjoy some shade but attendees were told to bring their own chairs and covering. People were also encouraged to wear their masks and masks were provided to folks who requested one.
Due to COVID there were no bounce-houses and children play areas this year but everyone seemed to enjoy being outside and listening to the Blues.
Vendors dished out brisket, chicken ribs, pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, greens and a variety of other dishes. Vendors also sold smoothies and drinks and anyone of age was able to purchase an ice-cold beer.
