Seven seniors make up the Christian Home Educators Association class of 2023. The CHEA Commencement Ceremony will be held Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Glennville First Baptist Church.

Christian Home Educators Association (CHEA) was founded in 1993 with five pioneering families who shared the same desire to educate their children at home. This year, around 40 families and more than 80 students participated in CHEA classes and activities. Each family represents an individual school choosing to come together bi-weekly for enrichment at two locations, Hagan and Glennville.

Like a true cooperative, all parents assist in working toward a common goal and contribute their skills, abilities, and talents. In addition to offering various classes, CHEA provides an opportunity for students to participate in community activities, mission outreaches, field trips, formals, drama productions as well as the graduation ceremony. CHEA’s highest goal is to honor the Lord and serve Him in everything.

Graduating seniors are: Emma Anderson, Anna Boyett, Chloe Parker, Madelyn Parker, Mary-Claire Thompson, Carson Wallace and Virginia Whitley.

Thompson, from Glennville, is the daughter of Paul and Christi Thompson and plans to attend Anderson (S.C.) University and major in interior design.

Madelyn and Chloe Parker are the daughters of Rev. Josh and Jennifer Parker. They are originally from Tallahassee, Fla., and now live in Midway. Madelyn is a youth leader and teaches first through third grade Sunday school at Fleming Baptist Church. She plans to major in psychology at Point University. Chloe also is a youth leader at Fleming Baptist Church and teachers third through fifth grade Sunday school. She will be attending Point University with the goal of becoming a special education teacher.

Whitley is the daughter of Micah and Latisa Whitley of Claxton. After graduation, she plans to attend Georgia Southern University and pursue a degree in graphic design with a minor in studio art.
