LUDOWICI -- The expression "dynamite come in small packages" is no more appropriate than when you speak of the Long County High School Concert Band.
The band recently competed in the 2008 USA Music Festival in Orlando, Fla., and won first place in the Class 2-AA Concert Band Division, and also won second in the Overall Band Competition.
"This was the first time this group of students has been in a competition, and even though they were noticeably nervous, I am proud of what they were able to accomplish," director Myron Grimes said.
He added, "We didn't find out the results until Friday evening, and the students were ecstatic as well as a little stunned. They were very happy that they not only placed, but won."
The competition took place on April 11, and was the culmination of much practice and effort by the students.
After the group competed, they went to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks, returning home on the 13th.
