During the Department of Georgia’s Annual American Legion Convention held June 25-27, the members selected Chief Dennis P Fitzgerald, of Riceboro as their 2021 Legionnaire and Firefighter of the Year.  Pictured is Chief Fitzgerald flanked on the left by Department of GA Commander Eddie Asberry and on the right by National Vice Commander David King. Post 184 in Thunderbolt received an award for outstanding post in category three, and 1st District Commander, Dennis Fitzgerald was elected as a Department Junior Vice Commander. Casey Nash succeeded Commander Fitzgerald as the new 1st District Commander, thus becoming the first female Commander to lead the district.
