A Liberty County Sheriff's Office deputy was injured Friday while trying to arrest a Hinesville man on an outstanding drug warrant.

LCSO Maj. Jeff Hein said the incident began when the deputy, who was not named, pulled the man over for a traffic stop and learned he was wanted for drugs. When the deputy tried to handcuff the man, he broke away, injuring the deputy's hands, according to Hein.

The man, who also hasn't been identified yet, ran to his home on Second Street in Hinesville, where he refused to come out. Officers from the LCSO narcotics team broke into the home and found him hiding in his attic and arrested him.

The deputy was treated at Liberty Regional Medical Center for his injuries, Hein said.
