MRI at Liberty Regional Medical Center offers increased speed, comfort

Liberty Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system within its facility.  The first patient exam was performed successfully on Aug. 12.

This upgrade to a more technologically advanced Siemens Magnetom Espree system has significantly broadened the demographic of patients who can be tested.  Its “wide bore”, or wide tube, design is much larger in diameter, so patients who are typically claustrophobic or who have wider shoulders will be much more comfortable during the test.  In fact, the oversized bore is comparable to an open MRI.   In addition, the new MRI tube is shorter in length so that many of the exams may be able to be completed with the patient’s head outside of the tube, dramatically reducing anxiety.

This new, state-of-the-art system offers faster scan times, better image quality and a higher weight capacity of up to 550 pounds.  It will also allow Liberty Regional to offer a broader array of MRI exams for its patients.

“Liberty Regional is excited to offer a higher quality of MRI services at our hospital.” said Tammy Mims, CEO.  “With increased speed and comfort, along with additional types of exams and better image quality, we will be able to serve many more patients conveniently right here in our own community.”
