Person struck, killed by train
Crime scene tape

A person was killed early Friday morning after being struck by a CSX train in Walthourville.
According to Walthourville Fire and Rescue Chief Nick Maxwell, the Walthourville Fire Department was dispatched at 1:47 a.m. to the railroad tracks on Talmadge Road, adjacent to the fire and police departments, on the report of a train striking a person.
Maxwell said utility terrain vehicles were used in the search, which took several hours and multiple agencies to locate the person, who was found an estimated 200 feet from where they were struck.
Maxwell said the body was taken to the GBI crime lab for a positive identification.
