A Richmond Hill man was shot Wednesday afternoon in Richmond Hill and some suspects have been apprehended in South Carolina after a chase.
According to Richmond Hill Police Chief Billy Reynolds, the victim confronted four men who reportedly were trying to break into his pickup that was parked at the Suites at Exchange Station shortly after 2:30 p.m. RHPD Maj. Mike Albritton said the victim is 19 and works at the assisted living facilities off Ford Avenue. Albritton said when the victim confronted the men they ran toward a silver Dodge Charger that was parked nearby in the parking lot, but one raised a handgun and fired, grazing the victim’s elbow and hitting him in the stomach. He was flown by medical helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
The suspects fled in the Charger, according to the major and were seen by a Savannah Chatham Metro police officer on Ogeechee Road. The officer tried to stop them but the driver refused to pull over and a chase ensued. Albritton is not sure if the chase was on I-95 or Highway 17. It ended South Carolina in an apartment complex where Hardeeville Police officers found the suspects in an apartment.
Albritton is working on returning the suspects to Richmond Hill to face charges.
The vehicle the men fled was possibly stolen earlier in the day in Savannah
