A newly married couple’s honeymoon didn’t exactly start as they planned.

According to Liberty County Sheriff Deputy Brian Barnes, the couple was married Friday in their hometown of Twin City in Emanuel County.

Barnes said the couple were visiting the coast Sunday traveling north on interstate 95 near mile marker 78 when they realized smoke began coming into the cab of the 2010 Chevy Traverse.

They pulled over and noticed flames coming  from the engine compartment.

The flames began to spread to grass on the side of the interstate, but Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Jody Voissem was able to extinguish the  flames with his fire extinguisher.

The Midway Volunteer Fire and Rescue department arrived and kept the fire from spreading further into the wood line.
