A 3rd Infantry Division soldier died of an apparent stab wound on Fort Stewart last night.
A news release from the post's Public Affairs Office said the soldier was seen bleeding and in distress near his barracks around 9:30 p.m. by a commercial delivery person who called Fort Stewart police. Fort Stewart Emergency Medical Services responded and took the soldier to Winn Army Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The soldier, who has not been identified by authorities yet, had returned from a yearlong deployment to Iraq about 18 hours prior to the incident.
With CID conducting a full investigation, no further information is available for release at this time.
The soldier's name will be released as soon as next of kin notification is complete, PAO said.
