The first annual Community Kidsfest and Tiger 5-K run was a success as over a thousand people were informed of community activities and accident prevention while having fun at Bradwell Park on Saturday.
Several community agencies, including the YMCA, Hinesville Police Department, United Way, and Liberty County Recreation Department participated.
“Everything went well above our expectations,” HPD Officer Michael Trombley said. “The important thing is to let the community know that we are a part of them and be able to intertwine with the community. We’re  here to support them and we ask for them to support us to make it a safer and better city.”
Bradwell basketball coach Faye Baker said the event was a lot of fun and is glad that the youth were enjoying themselves and having fun.
The event started at 8 a.m. with a mile fun run, followed by Bradwell Institute junior Malachi Bell winning the 5-K, finishing a second under 20 minutes.
Col. Thomas James led 24 runners from the 3rd ID’s 4th Brigade. As F Company of the 703rd paced down Main Street, bystanders showed their support.
There was heavy hoops action as the Tigers, represented by Jarvis Wardsworth, Larry Henry and Antonio “Slink” Allen, won the 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The Hinesville Police Department, represented by Bill DeWitt, Mike Shaver and Officer Plaza, won the 19 and over tournament.
