A bicycle thief or thieves hit Ludowici last week, allegedly stealing four bicycles within six days.
Ludowici Police Department Chief Robert Poppell said that on Aug. 29 it was reported that a blue adult Mongoose bicycle with black lettering was stolen from a residence on Thorton Street and a purple Schwinn was stolen from a residence on Way Street.
Poppell said that on Aug. 30 a black and orange Next bike was also reported stolen from a Thorton Street residence. He said that this one was reportedly taken from under the residence’s carport.
The last theft was reported Sept. 3 when black BMX was taken from a Boundary Street residence.
“I’d like to encourage everyone to keep records of any property belonging to them,” the chief said, “especially when it’s left outside, such as these stolen bicycles.”
Poppell said that if people have the serial numbers, receipts and photos of property recorded, it makes it easier for authorities to recover if it is stolen.
“If at all possible keep your bikes inside, in your garage, or locked up in a storage building,” he said.
Poppell asked anyone with information about the thefts to call LPD at 545-2222.
The chief also said a resident reported she had been the victim of identity fraud. The woman reported someone else used her information to set up an account with Comcast. The matter is under investigation.
