No one was injured, but traffic was snarled for hours after a one-truck wreck on Highway 84 at its intersection with Highway 196 Friday evening
Rick Bray, an independent truck driver, was heading to Hinesville from Savannah to spend the weekend with a friend. But as he was merging onto 84 from 196, Bray said the generator he was hauling may have shifted inside the container causing his truck to flip onto the McIntosh Mountain railroad overpass.
A passing National Guardsman, Johnny Rogers of Jesup who witnessed the accident, rushed to see if Bray was OK.
“My automatic reaction was to rush over as soon as possible to see what was wrong with the man,” Rogers said.
When Rogers and two other men who have not been identified reached Bray they helped pull him out of the rig as fuel poured onto the ground from the gas tank.
“I’m grateful they were there to help pull me out, because the first thing we had to do was get away from the rig because of the leaking gas.”
In addition to Rogers, an unidentified nurse stopped to check Bray.
