Signal is on

The long-awaited traffic signals at McLarry’s Curve in Flemington, at the intersection of Highway 84 and Old Sunbury Road, went active around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Flemington Mayor Paul Hawkins and Liberty County Commission Chairman Donald Lovette watched as the state Department of Transportation turned on the lights.

The poles holding up the signals are made specifically for the intersection.

The signals were approved back in 2012. “It’s a long time coming,” Mayor Hawkins said. “This is really going to benefit the citizens of Liberty County.”

BELOW, Liberty County Commissioner Justin Frazier, Hawkins, Lovette and Flemington City Council member David Edwards were on hand as the signal went on and the new Old Sunbury Road opened to traffic.
