Going into their most recent game, the Long County Blue Tide football team had won five games in a season only twice in their quarter-century history. They did so again when they defeated the Beach Bulldogs 44-0 to move to 5-2 and 3-1 in region play.
Ahmari Douglas got things going early with a 43-yard touchdown run on Long County’s first possession. His run also put him over the 1,000yard mark for the second straight season.
The Tide took a 14-0 lead when Steven Wyatt got the call from the 16. Wyatt ran over a Bulldog player and rumbled his way into the endzone for his first touchdown of the season.
Christian Glenn capped off an 86-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown to make the score 20-0 with 8:15 left in the half.
Noah Range made it 28-0 when he intercepted a tipped pass and ran it back for another touchdown just before the half.
After a short punt put the Tide at the Bulldogs 29-yard line, Douglas scored on a 10-yard run for a 36-0 lead.
The touchdown for Douglas gave him 15 on the year, tying running back coach Chip Scott’s single-season record set in 2014.
Keshawn Smith added the final touchdown of the game later in the third quarter.
With the win, the Tide move to 5-2 and 3-1 in the region. They will be off next week before hosting the Liberty County Panthers for senior night. A win against the Panthers will give the Tide a winning record for the first time in team history and essentially clinch a state playoff spot for the Tide.
