The Liberty Lady Mavericks 14-under girls basketball team came home with a bronze medal, taking third place in the Georgia Games tournament in Atlanta on July 20-22.
Only eight players were able to carry the team during the overtime after the point guard, Myah Gaines, fouled out.
The other guard Diamone Johnson had four fouls. She received her fifth foul with three minutes left in overtime.
Alisha Jenkins and Sierra Kirkland each had four and Alisha later fouled out with three minutes left on the clock.  Catherine Scaggs was able to make several key baskets and free throws to keep the game close. Two of the players from the 12-under team, Tiara Howard and Lauren Butler, also participated.
Erica McDade joined the team with ease and was able to help with the point-guard position.
“Overall I was proud of our girls because they never gave up,” assistant coach, Keisha Howard said.
The Liberty Lady Mavericks 14-under was expected to  compete in the Ball-Star Back to School Tournament in Macon this weekend.
