The Blue Tide ladies got revenge against the Wayne County Yellow Jackets Saturday, beating them 51-47. The girls had lost to their rivals by a narrow three-point margin just a week earlier.
Long County was up at the half by four, but by the end of the third period the Yellow Jackets had marched back and tied the game 41-41.
In the final period, the Blue Tide ladies out scored the Yellow Jackets 10 to 6, resulting in a 51-47 win.
According to head coach Julie Daffron, the win came from an overall team effort.
“The girls are communicating much better on the court and understanding their roles on the team,” Daffron said.
She added, “We played excellent zone and man-to-man defense and on the offense we were patient when we needed to be”.
The leading shooter for the Lady Tide was Shanetra Quarterman, who had 26 points, 18 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Brittany Mills had 9 points, 8 steals, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. While Caela LaRochester had 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots.
Shareka Turner had 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Angel Wilson had 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. And India Gamble put in 3 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.
“Tonight’s game was fun and exciting,” Daffron said.
The Blue Tide ladies traveled to Kingsland to take on the Camden County Lady Wildcats Tuesday evening. The score from that game will be in Friday’s Coastal Courier.
