MR Girls Reg2 Feb21
The lady Blue Tide wait for a high rebound in the game against the McIntosh Academy Buccaneers. The girls lost the game, 46-62.
The Long County Blue Tide girl’s basketball team played in the Region 2-AA Tournament last Thursday and Friday and felt both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
On Thursday they took on the Brantley County Herons in Baxley, and both teams were familiar with each other, having played twice during the regular season, each winning one.  However on Thursday the Blue Tide Ladies were too much for their opponents and won easily 44-32.
In the game, Angela Ashley had 5 points, India Gamble and Brittany Mills each had 7, and the leading scorer for the Tide was Gentara Holmes with 18 points.
With the win, the Long County girls advanced into the semi-finals of the tournament to face the number one seed, the McIntosh Academy Buccaneers.
The Bucs were clearly the team to beat going into the tournament having gone 14-0 in the region and 23-2 overall.
The Lady Tide fought hard in the first half, but went in at the break, down 19-33.
In the third period the Long County ladies out scored the number one seed 13-10 to make up a little ground, but the deficit from the first half was too much, and they lost 46-62.
The Blue Tide girls were game competition against the Buccaneers, but McIntosh County had the bigger girls and deeper bench, and that was the difference in the game.
The Lady Tide played Saturday against the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets, to determine the third and fourth place standings in the tournament.  During the regular season both teams won on the other’s home court.  Results from the game were not available in time for printing.
