The Long County Recreation Department’s 7- and 8-year-old football team lost a disappointing 12-0 game to the McIntosh County team Tuesday in Ludowici.
On a night when the Little Blue Tide just couldn’t seem to get their offense in gear, they had a quick four and out on their first possession.
The McIntosh County team wasted no time, and on their first play from scrimmage, their quarterback took the ball and ran a sweep around the right corner and raced for the 65-yard touchdown.
The Little Blue Tide defense did step it up on the conversion, and didn’t allow the quarterback to get back into the end zone, making the score early, 6-0 Gamecocks.
In the second quarter, the Long County team started on its own 35-yard line, and drove the ball all the way down to the McIntosh nine, but facing a fourth-and-eight situation, they were unable to get the first down.
At the half, it was McIntosh County 6 and Long County 0.
In the third period, both defenses played well and neither team was able to put up any points.
In the fourth period, the visitors drove down the field and had a first and goal on the Long County eight-yard line. On the first down, the McIntosh County running back hit pay dirt, and the Blue Tide was down by two scores.
The final score ended up being Gamecocks 12 and Little Blue Tide 0.
Following this game, the 9- and 10-year-old Long County team took on the McIntosh County team and won 7-6. There was no report for this game.
