It was evident Davis would excel in high school and collegiate sports when as early as 1971 she took a first place finish in the breast-stroke for the Fort Stewart Dolphins swim team.

From 1972-1985 Davis played LCRD girls softball when her teams won first place nine times and earned second place six times. Davis was always heralded for her hitting and pitching. She often was named home run batting champ and was mentioned in numerous articles in the Liberty Herald/Coastal Courier. In the playoffs, Davis’ LCRD team placed first 12 times and second and third once each.
In all 14 years, Davis made every all-star team. During those years, her teams placed first eight times and second three times in the sub-district and district tournaments. Davis led the midget league girls to a second place state run and, a few years later, led the junior girls’ softball team to their first state championship title.
In 1973 and 1975 Davis also played basketball, and her team won second and first place, respectively.
Davis ran track in 1975, earning five first place finishes for the LCRD 13-14 year old age division. She held the record in 1975 and 1976 for 13-14 girls in the 100-yard dash, held the record in the 220-yard dash from 1975-1978 and held the long jump record for 22 years.

In 1977, Davis was part of the 440 relay team that placed second, earning a new school time and also finished second at the region meet. At the state meet, the 440 team placed fourth in their first trip to state. That same year, Davis earned third place in the AAU Junior Olympics with the 440 relay team.
In 1978 Davis was a part of Bradwell’s first girls’ softball team and lettered in the sport for the remainder of her high school career. That first year, she was the LCRD’s batting champ with a .737 average.
She was the first woman in Liberty County to be offered a collegiate scholarship for softball. She earned the scholarship in 1980 as a walk-on freshman at Georgia Southern College.
She batted .421 her freshman year and the Lady Eagles recorded a 25-9 season. That season, the Lady Eagles placed third in the GAIAW (Now the NCAA) Slow-Pitch Softball Championship Tournament and Davis was named to the All-Tournament Team. Davis was the only Lady Eagle ever to be named to the national all-tournament team.
The following year Davis led the Lady Eagles to a first place finish at the GAIAW Slow-Pitch Softball Championship Tournament. In the national tournament the Lady Eagles finished fourth for the second year in a row.
