Redshirt junior guard picks up his second weekly award of the season
After a week in which he averaged 27.7 points per game, Georgia Southern’s Jelani Hewitt has been named Southern Conference men’s basketball player of the week.
The redshirt junior from Miramar, Fla., scored 38 points in the Eagles’ overtime loss to Campbell on Saturday night. It is the second time Hewitt has been named player of the week in four opportunities this season.
On Saturday night, he also pulled down 11 boards to record his first career double-double and added four steals with three assists in 44 minutes of action. He was the first Eagle since 2010-11 to score more than 30 points in his game and set a new career high for scoring.
