Pool open, ready for swimmers

Although the area desperately needed the rain, there is much to be said about a bright, sunny day and a nice cold swimming pool.
The pool at Liberty Independent Troop Park is open for business and offers a place to splash around and cool down from the hot temperatures.
The pool is open to all ages during the daily open swim from 2-6 p.m. The fee is $2 per person per day. The Liberty County Recreation Department also provides swimming lessons that are two weeks in length, Monday through Thursday.
There are morning sessions scheduled at 9, 10 or 11 a.m. Evening sessions begin at 6:10 p.m. June 18 and July 9. Swimming lessons cost $25 per person.
Classes are available for people with special needs from 9-9:50 a.m. through June 14, with another session scheduled from July 9-19 for $25 per person. On Saturdays, infant and toddler lessons are available for ages 1-3 at 10 or 11 a.m. for $25 per person.
Family swim nights are from 7:15-9 p.m. Monday and Wednesdays. The cost is $2 per person. The pool is also available for rent from 7-10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.  Saturday and Sundays
The LCRD also has a number of non-swimming programs. The skate park at Troop Park is open daily from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
The Shuman Recreation Center is hosting a day camp from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Friday for $75 per week. The camp is open to ages 6-13.
A baseball camp is set from 9-11:30 a.m. June 18-21 for ages 6-14 at Liberty Independent Troop Park. The fee is $30.
Dance camp is scheduled is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 18-21 at Lewis Frasier Middle School for ages 7-older. The fee for dance camp is $30.
Cheer camp runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 25-28 for ages 7-older at Lewis Frasier Middle School. The fee for dance camp is $30.
Basketball and softball camps will start in July.
If you are looking to pump a little iron or do some cardio exercises the weightlifting facility located next to the Shuman Center is free and open to the public Monday through Thursday from 4-8 p.m., Fridays from 3-7 p.m. and Saturdays  from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
