Former Liberty County High School basketball player Rion Brown, now playing at the University of Miami, got the opportunity to go to Honolulu with the men’s Hurricanes basketball team over the Christmas holiday.
But the ’Canes finished 1-2, losing in overtime to Indiana State, 57-55, in the consolation game Dec. 25.
According to the Miami Herald, the Hurricanes were unable to overcome poor free-throw shooting and missed all 15 3-pointer attempts.
Indiana State’s Jake Odum shot in a 15-footer with 0.8 seconds left in overtime to rally his team to victory.
Miami ended up in the consolation bracket after falling to Arizona, 69-50, on Dec. 23.
The Hurricanes started tournament earlier Dec. 23 with a 73-58 win over host Hawaii.
Brown played for 25 minutes in each game of the tournament, scoring a total of 15 points with one assist, three steals and four rebounds.
