Dustin McGowan picked up the third complete game of his career this past Tuesday, as the Blue Jays beat the Mariners 3-1.
Playing at home the Long County native was on the money all night. With his fast ball humming early and his change up getting better as the night went on, the right hander struck out seven batters in the game.
Toronto jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, when lead off batter Vernon Wells slammed a homer over the center field wall.  Wells has been hot since coming off the disabled list, and the HR was his second in four games.
Seattle tied the game in the top of the fifth, but in the bottom of the inning the Jays went back on top.  In the bottom of the sixth inning the Blue Jays scored their third run of the night, and it was enough for a win, as McGowan shut down the Mariners over the final four innings.
The win was McGowan's fifth of the year.  The 26-year-old pitcher has been dominating when he has pitched in Toronto, as his home record now stands at 4-1 with a 1.73 ERA in six starts.
The complete game was the third for McGowan in his career and his first for 2008.  However, for the year, Toronto leads all teams in the majors with seven complete games, five of them coming from ace Roy Halladay.
For the game McGowan faced 34 batters, throwing 125 pitches with 78 being for strikes.  He struck out 7, walked 2, gave up 5 hits, 1 solo homerun, and now has an ERA of 3.92.
The Blue Jays (34-34) now sit in a third place tie with New York (33-33) in the American League Eastern Division.  The two team are 7 1/2 games behind Boston (42-27) and 5 games behind Tampa Bay (38-28).
McGowan (5-4) will be back on the mound this Tuesday, June 17th as he and the Jays take on the Milwaukee Brewers (35-31)
The righty will take on left-hander Manny Parra, who is 5-2 with an ERA of 4.66.
