Some Tigers make all-region football

Several players from the Bradwell Tigers football team were recently named to the 3-AAAAA All-Region Team. Tiger football coach Jim Walsh, Jr., was voted Region coach of the year and running back Sheldon Barnes was voted the region offensive players of the year to top the list. The players and coaches were selected by the coaching staff of the participating region schools within the 3-AAAAA classification.

Walsh took the Tigers to a 7-3 overall record and a second place finish in the region for the 2008 season.

Barnes, a junior, rushed for 1,649 yards and 19 touchdowns this season helping the Tigers reach the second round of playoffs in 11 years.

Tigers Ulrick John, Kavaughn Harris and DeMario Day were named to the first team offense. Chauncey Crossley was voted to the second team offense.

Kicker David Miller was named to the second team special teams unit.

For the defense Tigers Dominique Jernigan, Shaquille Russell and DeAnte Day made the first team list. Millers made the first team as a punter.

Ja’Shaun Thomas, Shawuan Anderson, Jarrel Inman and Darvion Herron were named on the second team defense.

Russell, Barnes and John were also chosen for the Savannah Morning News all area team for their respective positions as line backer, running back and offensive lineman.

Tigers receiving Honorable Mentions were Delrish Moore, Manuel Crum, Corey Gilliard, Wilson Brown, Larenzo Frasier, Trivon Williams, Mike McGirt, David Swinford, Harry Bennett, Ricardo Panther, Alec Velasco and Chris Young.

The Tiger are set to return several players for next season and have already set the date for their homecoming game for Oct. 23, 2009 when they host Beach High School.
