The Bradwell Institute Tigers had 19 athletes compete in the Area VI Lee Murray GACA Weight-Lifting competition at Statesboro High two weeks ago.  Athletes competed in 10 different weight classes and were allowed 3 lifts per event in bench press, parallel squat, and power clean.  The top 3 participants in each weight class advance to the state competition in Perry on Saturday March 22nd.  Senior Reuben Boone competed in the 171-180 lb. weight class and earned a first place finish with a 990lb. total. Sophomore Sheldon Barnes competed in the 191-205lb.-weight class and earned a second place finish with a 970lb. total. Senior Charles Burch competed in the 141-150lb.-weight class and earned a second place finish with an 835lb. total. Weight lifting coach Aron Mock said, “Sheldon Barnes had a very good day in the competition. Last year he competed and ended up with a 740lb total. Obviously, his hard work in the weight-room this year has paid off. Reuben did not perform to his best ability at the meet, but still placed first in his weight-class. Charles Burch did very well considering that this was his first experience in a weight lifting competition.”
