Tigers can't overcome Greyhounds' fast start
Perry slam
Bradwell freshman Chris Perry puts down an alley-oop during the Tigers' loss to Jones County.

The Bradwell boys, fresh off their first region title in 30 years, fell behind early and never could catch up to the Jones County Greyhounds in a 65-44 loss in the first round of the boys Class AAAAA state playoffs.

Bradwell’s only lead came with no time having run off the clock – both teams were assessed technical fouls before the game and Chris Perry made one of two free throws for a 1-0 lead ahead of the opening tip.

The Greyhounds, though, streaked out to an early 26-6 lead and when Tigers coach Ty Randolph called timeout at the 6:30 mark of the second quarter, the Tigers had called more timeouts (three) than had made field goal attempts (two).

Daetran Harris hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter alone for the Greyhounds (17-12), and Jones County connected on five such tries in opening period. Their last three successful shots from the floor in the first period were all 3-pointers.

Jones County led by as much as 25 points in the second quarter. Bradwell cut into the lead and closed to within 45-34 in the late stages of the third quarter but a quick 6-0 run midway through the fourth pushed the game back out of reach.

Jaylen Sanford added 13 points for Jones County, two coming on a spectacular third-quarter alley oop feed from Kaden Douglas. Judd Anderson, a 6-foot-6 junior center, had 12 points for the Greyhounds.

Tahshaun Frasier topped Bradwell with 11 points, hitting a pair of 3s. Chris Perry chipped in nine points, sinking a pair of 3s and completing an alley oop slam of his own in the fourth.

Jones County repeatedly double- and triple-teamed Elyjah Thurmon in the post, and the Tigers’ leading scorer was held to one field goal in the first half. He finished with seven points.

Jones County will take on Tucker, a 65-45 winner over Northgate, in the second round. Bradwell’s season ends at 16-9.
