EVANS – The Bradwell Institute Tigers got scores from every phase of their game to overcome Greenbrier’s relentless rushing attack.
The Tigers got touchdowns on defense and special teams en route to a 51-28 win over the Wolfpack in a Region 1-AAAAA game Friday night.
It was the most points scored by a Bradwell team since a 56-6 win over Johnson on October 20, 2007, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association’s records. It was also Bradwell’s first road win outside of Liberty County since beating Greenbrier 20-9 to end the 2022 season.
The Wolfpack ran for 280 yards on 58 attempts, but the Tigers got a safety, ran a kickoff back and three passing touchdowns from Jahbarri Felix. Speedster Jakobi Pasley accounted for three touchdowns, two rushing and another on a kickoff return.
And the Tigers didn’t get their first points until the 9:10 mark of the second quarter.
Greenbrier got on the board first as quarterback Parker Brantley found Jayden Hill for a 33-yard touchdown pass.
Less than 30 seconds later, Cameron Keeve evened the score, bolting through the Wolfpack defense and outracing them on a 51-yard touchdown dash.
Felix connected with Carlito Savea on a 34-yard TD strike on the next possession, putting the Tigers ahead 14-7 with 5:13 left in the first half. The Tigers never trailed after that.
Their lead grew on Greenbrier’s next possession, when a shotgun snap sailed past Brantley and into the end zone, where the Pack recovered for the safety.
Bradwell turned that ensuing free kick into points quickly, as Felix fired a 69-yard touchdown pass to Savea for a 23-7 lead.
Greenbrier answered on its next possession as Brantley, under pressure, found Beau Polcha, who cut back across the field for a 44-yard touchdown reception, cutting the Tigers’ lead to 23-14.
Felix extended the lead to 30-14 on the second half’s opening drive, connecting with a wide open Kaire Johnson on a 15-yard touchdown pass.
Brennen Bjorkman’s 4-yard run capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive for the Wolfpack, and a successful two-point conversion pulled them within 30-22 with 2:36 left in the third quarter.
Bradwell’s big-play ability struck again on the following kickoff, as Pasley collected the bouncing kick and bolted 85 yards down the Tigers sideline to put the BI ahead 37-22.
Polcha added a 9-yard TD run to open the fourth quarter, but the Tigers defense held on fourth down, Pasley outraced the Wolfpack defense to the pylon for a 4-yard run and he tacked on a 37-yard TD run on the Tigers’ last possession.
Brantley ran 24 times for 140 yards as the Wolfpack amassed 258 yards on the ground. Greenbrier ran 66 plays to Bradwell’s 40.
Felix was 8-of-13 passing for 160 yards, and Keeve added 153 yards rushing.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-2 in the region and 2-3 overall.
The Tigers will travel to Brunswick to take on the region-leading Pirates on October 3.
