One of downtown Savannah’s main dining destinations is stepping up its game even further. B. Matthew’s Eatery, located along picturesque Bay Street, will be closing its doors for a brief hiatus beginning on September 4thto undergo much-anticipated renovations. Owners of B. Matthew’s, and its parent company Gaslight Group, Jennifer and Brian Huskey are taking a closer look at implementing modern updates and are promising patrons a fresh start with a grand re- opening in October 2012.

B. Matthew’s Eatery, Gaslight Group’s flagship restaurant in Savannah since 2006 has been a staple to the low country-dining scene ever since Jennifer and Brian took the helm. In the coming weeks, B. Matthew’s plans to elevate the dining experience to the next level by renovating the overall look of the restaurant and implementing several new design features.

Renovations begin with cosmetic updates to the dining area, with new furnishings, fresh paint, as well as new lighting and a bathroom overhaul. Updates will continue behind the scenes via an overhaul of the kitchen with all-new appliances and a re-designed layout to provide a more efficient work area for the busy chefs.

The anticipated goal is to renovate the look while retaining the old school flair that has kept fans and enthusiasts coming back to B. Matthew’s since 2006. “Comfort, convenience, and style have been proven staples of B. Matthew’s as a whole,” states owner Jennifer Huskey. “These exciting updates will serve to enhance the nostalgic atmosphere that we have nurtured over the past few years and extend to local residents and tourists alike.”

Diners are encouraged to visit B. Matthew’s prior to the September 4thclosing date, as live music and food & wine specials continue through Labor Day weekend. The lively and entertaining Gypsy jazz group Velvet Caravan performs each Thursday and Friday evening from 6pm to 9pm, with special musical guests Bruce Spradley and David Keller filling in on Friday, Aug. 31st. Saturday evening patrons are able to enjoy a rotation of some of Savannah’s finest musicians, Jackson Evans (Aug. 25) and Jared Hall (Sept. 1). The talented chefs at B. Matthew’s will be serving up their tantalizing daily food specials, and half-price bottles of select wines are offered every Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
