Team Hinesville’s weightlifting team is seeking donations for upcoming trips to the Pan-Am 17U Championship and the Quebec Junior Championship.

World-ranked Olympic weightlifter Jenna Bussard, coach of Team Hinesville, said participants pay their own expenses so she is always eager to accept donations to help Team Hinesville. If you would like to make a donation, call her at 429-0931.

Booster club sells fortune cookies


The Lady Panthers Booster Club for the LCHS girls soccer team will be selling fortune cookies for $1 from 3-9 p.m. today in front of Wal-mart in Hinesville.

They’re also holding a raffle for a new Nintendo Wii gaming system valued at $249. Only 2,000 tickets will be given out.

Cheerleading Academy to hold classes, tryouts


Registrations are being accepted for cheerleading classes at Inspirational Cheerleading Academy for children ages 6-18. Classes begin Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9-12 p.m. behind the VFW on Highway 196. There are 15 openings for beginners, intermediate class has 15 slots and the advanced class can accommodate 20. Registration fees are $50 per person and the class fees are $55 per week per person.

The academy’s All-Star Competitive Cheerleading Squad try-outs for children ages 8-18 are at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. The location has not yet been determined.

Liberty Hunting Club
trout tournament

The Liberty Hunting Club is hosting a trout tournament at the Sunbury Shrimp Dock on Aug. 29. The fee is $100 per boat (three people). The first-place winner will receive $1,000 and the second-place winner will receive $300. There will be a captains’ meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at shrimp docks. Fire dept. golf tourney set


The first annual Hinesville Fire Department MDA Golf Tournament will be Sept. 26 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. It will be a scramble tournament with an entry fee of $50 per player. St. James after-school program


The St. James Center is accepting registration for its free after-school program, which includes homework assistance for children enrolled in kindergarten-6th grade. Bridge run is Dec. 5


The Savannah River Bridge Run is set for Dec. 5

Participants can register online at The entry fee is $28 for anyone who signs up before Oct. 31, and $30 for anyone who registers between Nov. 1-Dec. 3.

Runners can pick up their registration packets Friday, Dec. 4, inside the Savannah Civic Center. Participants can register during packet pick-up for $35. The entry fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Participants cannot register on the day of the race.

The course spans Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge, which is 1.4-miles long and has a 5.5 percent incline. It is 196 feet above the Savannah River.

LCRD soccer


Registration for youth soccer at the Liberty County Recreation Department runs through Aug. 21. This program is for ages 4-17, as of Aug. 1. The fee is $18 per child. Games will be played on weekday evenings at James A. Brown Park, starting in late September. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams. Registration for fall baseball and softball at the Liberty County Recreation Department runs through Aug. 28. Age divisions are 7-9 machine pitch and 10-12 live pitch leagues. The age cut-off date is May 1. The program will be conducted in September and October. The fee is $45 per child. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams. Shrine Club tournament


It’s time for the 24th annual Hinesville/ Fort Stewart Shrine Club Golf Tournament. Registrations are being accepted for the 18-hole, four-person scramble at 8 a.m., Sept. 12, at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. The fee is $50 per person and includes cart, green fees and food. Baseball fall league


The Chain Baseball Academy is accepting registrations for a fall baseball program. The fall league will consist of 18U (grades 9-12) teams that will play double headers on Saturdays. Chain will also have a fall showcase team that will play at different colleges. Deadline for registration is Aug. 28. An instructional league will be also offered for players ages 9-14. Training for pitching arms



The Savannah Chain Baseball Academy is hosting three Velocity Arm Care Program sessions in the fall. The program's goal is to develop arm strength, while teaching the fundamentals of pitching and throwing mechanics, as well as proper arm care to insure the health and safety of participants. Participants will be supervised and an average of 3 to 5 MPH increase has been documented throughout the six week program. All positions players can benefit from the program. Doug Wollenburg, head baseball coach at SCAD, is the instructor. The first session begins the week of Aug. 16. Open to ages 10 and up.
