Asian Favorites on Thunder Run Menu
Are you hungry for some Asian favorites? They're on the menu Sept. 14 at Club Stewart's Thunder Run restaurant as part of their themed Wednesday evening offerings.
This week's fare is Mexican dishes.
Thunder Run began offering rotating, themed menus catering to a variety of tastes on Aug. 10. Other foods in the rotation are American, Italian and Mexican favorites.
Serving is every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.in Thunder Run. The cost is $9.95 per adult and half-price for children ages 5-10. There is no charge for children 4 and under.

Wild Hog Competition Sign-up
Registration is under way for the 2011 Wild Hog Competition, which begins Saturday and continues through Dec. 31.
A civilian and an active duty winner will receive a large hog head mount valued at $500.
Register by Oct. 11 at the Fort Stewart Pass & Permit Office. All participants must be a valid permit holder. There is a $5 entry fee.
The contest will be judged based on the number of hogs harvested during unmanaged hunts on Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. All hogs must be submitted at the Pass & Permit office or at the fish and wildlife office on Fort Stewart.

Marne Lanes' 9-pin, No Tap Tourney
A Nine-pin No Tap Tournament is coming to Marne Lanes Bowling Center starting on Saturday from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
The competition is the first Saturday of each month, giving bowlers a chance to win as much as $500.
There is a $20 entry fee. A portion of every entry goes into a 300 jackpot, which is currently up to $500.
Knock down nine pins and it is considered a strike in this high-scoring event. Bowl two nine-pin, no-tap 300s or one real perfect gage to take home the jackpot. The tournament consists of two average brackets: 165-up and 164-below. Pay-out for the tournament is a 5:1 ratio.

Beat the Golf Pros at Hunter/Stewart
Do you and your golfing buddies have the skill to beat the pros at Taylors Creek Golf Course and Hunter Golf Club? You'll get your chance on Saturday at Hunter and on Sept. 24 at Taylors Creek.
Here's the format: Two golf pros and a staff member from Taylors Creek and Hunter will challenge any four-person team in a "scramble" or "captain's choice" format.
All challengers will pay their respective green fees (golf carts are free) with an additional $20 to be placed into a pot. For every team that beats the pros, the event purse will be divided by the number of winners.

Murder Afloat on the Savannah Riverboat
Register through Sept. 12 for "Murder Afloat on the Savannah Riverboat."

Hunter GC Golf Scramble
The Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-Person Golf Scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sept. 16 at Hunter Golf Club. The first 25 four-person teams to register can play. Register your team by Sept. 14.
The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club members, active duty, retirees, and Army civilians, $45 for civilian guests.

Top of the Rock 5K Fun Run
The Top of the Rock Run, a fall tradition at Fort Stewart, has a new name and format for 2011.
This year, it's the "Top of the Rock 5K Fun Run," and it's structured to give soldiers, their families and friends an opportunity to run together just for the fun of it. There is no charge.
The run will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 17 between the Quick Track and Newman Fitness Center. Children in strollers are welcome.
Water stations will be set up. A timer will be set up at the finish line.

Kids Fishing Event at Hunter
Children, 16 and younger, will get a chance to catch a few big ones during the Hunter Army Airfield Kids Fishing Event at Hallstrom Lake from 7-10 a.m. Sept. 17.
The event is an early recognition of Hunting and Fishing Day, which this year is on Sept. 24. Permit and state license fees will be waived in recognition of the observance.
DPW, Fish and Wildlife will have Hallstrom Lake well stocked. A fish cleaning station will be set up and a limited number of fishing poles will be available on a first-come basis.
Throughout the event, there will be drawings for prizes. Snacks and drinks will be served.

Boys and Girls Club Kids Day at Stewart, Hunter
An activity-filled Boys and Girls Club Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
The event, planned to give parents and children a chance to spend fun time together, will be at School Age Services building 6571 at Stewart and Hunter Splash Park at Hunter. There is no charge.
Inflatables will be set up at both sites. Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments served.
The Hunter Kids Day also will include a bike rodeo, bean bag toss, tug of war, jump rope, sack race, tattoos and music. At Stewart, the fun will include arts and crafts, face-painting, a bike rodeo and a NEOS game.

NFL Punt, Pass & Kick
The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Fort Stewart Youth Football Field on Greene Street.

Family Fishing Event at Stewart
Pond 30 will be well stocked and the fish are likely to be biting for the Family Fishing Event from 7-10 a.m. on Sept. 24.
The event is being held to give family members a chance to enjoy time together fishing, as well as in observance of National Hunting and Fishing Day. Permit and state license fees will be waived.
Active duty soldiers and their families are invited. A fish-cleaning station will be set up by DPW Fish and Wildlife.

Managed Deer Hunts
Outdoor Recreation will conduct two managed hunts this season in the Delta Range Complex footprint.
The first will be on Oct. 29, and the registration deadline is 5 p.m. Oct 17.
Active duty soldiers stationed at Fort Stewart and retirees may apply. Total slots available for each hunt is 50, with 10 per cent being offered to retirees.
Applications will be taken at Pass & Permit Offices on Fort Stewart and Hunter.
Individuals will have the opportunity to take part in both a morning and afternoon hunt, with lunch provided during the break. Game check and cleaning station will be provided by Fish and Wildlife. A $10 fee per hunter will be charged and is payable upon selection for the hunt. Assistance also is provided by DES game wardens.
A drawing will choose the 50 hunters.
The other managed deer hunt will be on Dec. 20, with a registration deadline of 5 p.m. Nov 28.

Big Buck Contest Sign-up Under Way
Register now for a chance to win cash for the largest buck harvested on Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield. Registration will continue until Oct. 21.
Early bird registration fees are $25 and run until Friday for active duty, retired and family members, and $35 for civilians. Beginning Saturday, the fees go up $5.
All deer harvested must be turned in to the Fish & Wildlife Branch, during their operating hours, for scoring.
