(Hinesville, GA)— Georgia Southern University recently presented a $10,000 Critical Resource Award to the Liberty County School System. Through this award, GSU gives back to the organizations who serve the youth in our area. Funds will be utilized by Liberty County Schools to implement the Second Step program in all elementary schools for addressing students’ socialemotional needs. The award will also be used to provide attendance incentives to promote student attendance and improve academic success. Both strategies address Goal 2 of the district’s strategic plan, which is to “ensure the culture and climate provide a safe and supportive learning environment.” Dr. Kathy Moody, Executive Director for Student Services, stated, “The Liberty County School System is very blessed to have received a $10,000 Critical Resource Award from Georgia Southern University. This award has come at the right time, as school counselors are already making plans for the social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons when students return to the classrooms in August 2021.”
