The driver of a SUV was killed when his vehicle ran off Rye Patch Road in Long County and hit a tree shortly before 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Markus White.

The victim was identified as Jeffrey Doolittle, 49. 

The passenger in the SUV, Tammy Gentry, 52, was flown by medical helicopter to Memorial Health Medical Center in Savannah with what was described as injuries that were not life threatening.

The accident is under investigation, White said.
