The 15th annual Tybee Polar Plunge will see hundreds of people scurrying into the frigid Atlantic Ocean on New Year’s Day.
The Tybee Island event will feature the “Gang of Goofs” contest, where everyone is invited to dress up in wacky costumes for a chance to parade in front of a panel of judges and to win prizes. Proceeds benefit the restoration of the historic Tybee Post Theater.
The Gang of Goofs parade and contest is at 11 a.m. and the plunge at noon, both at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, Tybrisa St. and Strand Avenue.
Registration costs $25 fee for adults to take the plunge and register for the Gang of Goofs contest, $15 for children under 12. Registration includes a long-sleeve Tybee Polar Plunge T-shirt. Register at www.tybeepolarplunge.com before Dec. 28 or in person from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 27-31 at the Tybrisa Roundabout on Tybrisa Street or from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion.
