A Pembroke man died this morning after allegedly playing Russian roulette Wednesday afternoon.

Joshua R. McKinney, 23, was pronounced dead around 9 a.m. Thursday at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where he was flown after police found him suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, according to Pembroke Police Sgt. Matthew Lynn.

In a press release, Lynn said officers responded around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a shooting at 1880 Bowers St., where McKinney was found along with a .38-calibur handgun, which is believed to have been used in the shooting.

"Three other men were in the residence at the time of the shooting," Lynn said in the release. "Witnesses at the scene have reported that McKinney was playing 'Russian roulette' and dropped one bullet in the gun, spun the chamber and placed the gun to his head and fired."

Pembroke police are investigating the case. McKinney's body is being sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab for an autopsy.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact investigator Kelly Price at 653-4414 or Crimestoppers at 912-652-3560. Tips will be anonymous.
