Prowler reported in Ludowici
Arrest made in Long County burglary
crime scene

Ludowici police responded to the report of a prowler July 1 at Sandalwood Terrace Apartments, police Chief Robert Poppell said.

One of the residents told police that she heard a stranger behind her apartment, and then heard someone turning the knob on her door in an effort to enter.

Although no one was found in the area, the apartment-complex manager said several other residents reported that they had heard similar noises around their apartments, according to Poppell.

Since then, Ludowici police have increased their presence in the apartment complex on Fourth Street, the chief said.

Around noon Thursday, Jason Boatright, 34, of Hortense, was driving a silver 2012 Nissan Rogue through Ludowici on Highway 84 when police Capt. Travis Thomas pulled him over, Poppell said.

After making contact with the driver, Thomas had reason to believe that Boatright was intoxicated, the chief said.

Thomas asked Boatright if he would submit to a breath-alcohol test.

Boatright agreed at first, but then changed his mind, Poppell said.

Boatright was charged with refusal to take a DUI test, according to Poppell.

The Long County Sheriff’s Office also recently apprehended Shannon D. Williams, 29, of Allenhurst.

Sheriff’s Lt. Tom Sollosi said Williams was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary on June 11.

Williams is believed to have committed a burglary May 15 at Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park on Griffin Road, Sollosi said.
Sollosi said a bond of $11,000 was set for Williams.

As of last week, however, Williams still was in jail, Sollosi said.
