The Bradwell Park splash pad was expected to be back and ready for kids Monday.
The splash pad was shut down, not long after it opened, because of problems with the surface. Paul Simonton told Hinesville City Council members Thursday the contractor was grinding off the old material and new paint was going to be re-applied. Two coatings were scheduled to be applied by Saturday, with a 24-hour waiting period to follow before the fountain can be restarted.
The problem, Simonton said, was that the concrete pad was not prepared properly to take the skid-resistant paint.
“The paint didn’t stick,” he said.
Simonton said she visited a place that had the same material.
“It has been installed in several other places,” he said. “It’s a good product. But it’s like anything else, if the surface isn’t prepared before it’s put on, it’s not going to stick. Once the water got under it, it started peeling off like crazy.”
Simonton said the contractor accepted responsibility for the problem and there is a 12-month warranty.
