Big third inning propels Long County past Liberty County

It was another banner day for the Long County Lady Blue Tide softball team on Tuesday, September 13 as they region foe Liberty County 13-1, scoring 10 runs in the third inning.

Delanie Williams and Taylor Hodges started the third inning rally with singles. Kassie Davis’ sacrifice fly brought in one run, and Jaci Smiley’s double brought in another.

After a Liberty County error, Emma Smith tripled to make it 5-1. Ciara O’Brien followed with a single and winning pitcher Rebecca Lust tripled for a 7-1 lead.

Lust scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1, and Williams and Hodges each singled again, with Hodges plating Williams to make it 9-1.

Davis tripled, the Tide’s third of the inning, to score Hodges and record her third RBI of the game as the Tide went up 10-1. Smiley scored Davis to make the score 11-1 as the inning came to a close.

O’Brien doubled to open the bottom of the fourth inning and Morgan Goode singled to score her teammate. Addison Moss came up to pinch hit for Williams and singled to bring Goode home for the final run of the game.

With the win, the Lady Tide get back on the winning side of things and move to 11-4 and 6-1 in region play. They play at McIntosh County Academy today and St. Vincent’s Thursday before returning home to host Calvary Day on Tuesday, September 20.
