The Lady Minutemen of Glennville Christian Academy ended their season with a third-place finish in the Georgia Christian Athletic Association Tournament in Gainesville.
GCA played four games in the double elimination. Two of these contests were against the top two teams in the state for the past two seasons.
GCA won its opening match against Mountain Area Christian Academy in four games. The next day, they took second-ranked and undefeated Lake Dow Christian Academy to a five game tiebreaker coming up just two points short. Three hours later, they defeated Grace from Powder Springs.
Senior Brittany Blocker injured her left knee during this contest and had to sit out the remainder of the tournament. Seventh grade student Raegan Jarrett took her place on the starting roster.
The final game of the day pitted the Lady Minutemen against top ranked and undefeated Jubilee Christian Academy of Gainesville. GCA held their own against last year’s state champion with two of the three games going down to the wire. In the end, injuries and a lack of bench depth kept the team from reaching their first-place goal.
The state championship was won for the second consecutive year by Jubilee with Lake Dow once again in second place.
GCA finished the season with a 16-3 record, first place in Region IV Class A, and third place in the GCAA. They provided a stern test for the 2006 third ranked team (Jubilee) in the nation.
Sophomore Kourtnie Cox, freshman Leah Winkles, and seventh graders Victoria Cox and Raegan Jarrett assisted seniors Jennifer Johnson, Hannah Miller, Amanda Cammack and Brittany Blocker.
Coaches are Keith Dixon and Deanna Driggers.
