The younger Lady Tiger softball squad defeated the JV Groves Rebels 17-9 in five innings Thursday afternoon in Savannah..

JV coach Misty Eastlake’s girls scored six runs in the first inning and nine runs in the second before she pulled all her starters, except Candace Blair and Courtney Felton, and gave the reserves a chance to play.

The Rebels tried to capitalize on the personnel change by putting their starting pitcher on the mound and, according to Eastlake, the pace of the game slowed dramatically. However, the Tigers added two runs against the stronger Groves pitcher.

"Candace (Blair) hit a three-run homer," Eastlake said. "Courtney Felton hit one to deep centerfield and got two RBIs. Zeanna Buchanan hit a nice base hit to right center and Taylor Reese had a good day at the plate, both offensively and defensively."

Marena Coonrod started and ended the game as the JV Tiger pitcher. She struck out five Lady Rebels while temporary relief pitcher Kasey Smith had two strike-outs.
